Once in a while, I meet a bespoke bride that inspires me so much, it leads me to involve parts of the ideas from her bespoke wedding dress in my future collections.

Kim came to me looking for something unique and fun for her wedding and The Brewery in London - A gorgeous venue to say the least.

After trying on several ivory and white short and tea length wedding dresses it became apparent that Kim suited a tea length wedding dress and wasn't interested in an ivory wedding dress, instead she wanted to inject some colour into her dress.

I suggested blush pink as a colour because it worked brilliantly on her skin tone.

After a lovely consultation we figured out that the silhouette of the Tobi Hannah bridal Faith Tea Length Wedding Dress (shown below) was perfect for her.

 She also loved the idea of lace which worked very well. So the elements that made up Kim perfect Bespoke Tea Length Wedding Dress in the end were: Blush Pink Silk, Lace and a Tea Length Silhouette.

Amazingly when I started designing the 2013 collection I could not stop thinking about Kim's wedding dress and how beautiful it was and this is the story of how the Dawson and Dawson Blush Wedding Dresses were brought to life with the help of Kim. The dresses are actually named after her as her maiden surname is Dawson.

Kim was so lovely! Working as the Music Editor at the dailystar meant she could pull in a few favours and she got me two tickets to Download festival and this beautiful thank you note to show just how much the experience meant to her.

I was really touched and I kid you not... I had an amazing time backstage at Download Festival (met a few bands I like)

Unlike the reports that short wedding dresses have been ‘on trend’ for the last few bridal seasons, here at Tobi Hannah we would like to reassure you that it will not go ‘off trend’ any time soon if we have anything to do with it!

It is refreshing to see that no longer are short wedding dresses considered an odd choice for a wedding dress

I feel the tradition that comes with wearing a long wedding dress is dated, except of course in special religious circumstances or specific themed weddings.

I am not here to make a direct comparison between short wedding dresses and long wedding dresses; I just believe there are so many situations where a short wedding dress is more appropriate than a long wedding dress

Brides to be need to realise that you really don’t have to wear a long dress with an even longer train that spans back 6 feet from your body before you are acceptable as a bride

I found some awesome pictures of long wedding dresses that really made me determined to keep the short wedding dress dream alive!

It is so nice to know that there are geniunely people out there that share my love for individuality; a mix of vintage and modern, girly and grungy, playful and elegant.

What I’d like to share today is a bit about the inspiration for one of the short wedding dresses in the collection. It comes from the film Factory Girl. I absolutely love this film; I have watched it more than 100 times- no joke! I watched it again around the time I was looking for inspiration for the 2012 short wedding dress collection. Although the story of her life is quite sad, somehow I find comfort in the good moments in this film. Edie Sedgwick is an ultimate muse and the movie Factory Girl is simply amazing! Anyone interested in Fashion or Art should watch this movie, as it will inspire! She will inspire!

In my favourite scene from this film, Sienna Miller, who plays Edie Sedgwick, is wearing the lace 60′s lace short dress shown above.

I found this video clip which shows Sienna dancing effortlessly in the dress.

This then inspired me to sketch out a pattern for a vintage looking guipure lace similar to the one in the scene. I got the lace made up by our amazing fabric manufacturer in France and when it arrived I was really pleased. It was evident that I was going to make a 60′s style shift wedding dress from this very delicate guipure lace. This is the story of how the Tobi Hannah ‘Edith’ short wedding dress came to life.

The Edith shift wedding dress is absolutely perfect for a registry wedding, a small ceremony or as a second wedding dress for the reception.

Edie Sedgwick defined effortless but edgy mod glamour. To achieve the Edie Sedgwick look, the key is pairing the Tobi Hannah Edith shift wedding dress with bold long dangling earrings, a beehive held in place by a silk scarf or hair tie and pair of heels.

Nicola was having a London Registry wedding and really wanted a very simple cut short wedding dress. She spotted the Tobi Hannah Edith Wedding Dress  at her appointment as the closest dress to what she had in mind.

Less is Modern!

Simplicity, to us, is the key to a classy, refined and elegant look. Of course details play a very crucial role in adding intricacy and interesting additions to looks, but we LOVE simplicity and feel that it’s very under-estimated nowadays!

Ruth’s bespoke wedding dress reminds us that less is more sometimes. She was a no fuss kind of bride. She wanted a short wedding dress that would not date, so if you looked at her wedding photo in 50 years’ time you couldn’t say.. ”ahhh that was the time when most brides wore peplums, lace…etc.”

Her simple wedding dress is elegant and classy. The way a short wedding dress should always be.
